ROPER GREYELL EDUCATIONAL SERIES We are pleased to announce the 2010 spring schedule for Roper Greyell’s Educational Series. For 2010 we will be offering both in-person seminars and on-line webinars on a number of workplace law topics. All seminars take place at the offices of Roper Greyell and include a light breakfast. Seminar registration is free*, and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited, so please register early. Due to space restrictions, we may limit the number of attendees from each organization. You may join our webinars from your home or office. You require only a telephone and computer with an internet connection. As with our seminars, each webinar will contain presentation as well as question and answer sessions. Webinar registration is $50 per connection. Registered participants will be provided with log in information in advance of the webinar session. We hope you can join us at one or more of our educational series sessions. Feel free to pass this announcement on to any colleagues that you think may be interested in attending any of our sessions. Look for another announcement in May 2010 of our Fall Educational Series schedule. Topics to be covered in the Fall schedule include Workplace Immigration; Workplace Privacy Issues; The Benefits of Being a Diligent Employer: Human Rights Update; and Arbitration Update: The Year in Review.

We’ll discuss Employment Standards obligations, including overtime and notice due on dismissal, how common law obligations fit into the picture, and the importance of employment contracts.

TIPS FOR MANAGING EMPLOYEES WITH ADDICTIONS AND CHRONIC ILLNESSES Managing employees with addiction issues and chronic illnesses can present particular challenges. In this session, we’ll discuss the duty to accommodate, undue hardship, frustration of contract, and collection of medical information.
