Bruce is well respected in the labour and employment law community by his clients, peers and opponents. With more than 35 years of representing some of B.C.’s largest and most successful private and public employers, Bruce’s practical insight and experience is much valued by clients. He has been counsel on many leading cases in his field. Canada's foremost legal reference directory, LEXPERT, names Bruce as "consistently recommended" counsel in these areas of practice. In 2006 Bruce was appointed Queen's Counsel and was selected by his peers to be listed in "The Best Lawyers in Canada".

Bruce also arbitrates and mediates many employment law and related issues between private parties. An arbitrator with the B.C. International Commercial Arbitration Centre, Bruce is also a member of the Human Resources Management Association and the Arbitrators' Association of B.C. In 1995 he was the Industrial Inquiry Commissioner who examined labour relations and bargaining structure in the longshoring and grain handling industries at West Coast ports.

Bruce is an active community member on Bowen Island where he chaired the local Parks and Recreation Commission and was a founder and is Chair of the Bowen Island Community Foundation.
