Thomas A. Roper, Q.C.
Tom represents employers in the public, private sectors and professional associations. He provides strategic advice on all aspects of employment and labour relations and represents clients in employment related litigation. Tom is a past President and current member of the Human Resources Management Association of British Columbia. He is a member of the Executive Committee (Common Law Canada) of the Canadian Labour Law Association, the Canadian affiliate of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Canadian Association of University Solicitors and the Selection Committee for the Bora Laskin Award, given annually by the University of Toronto for outstanding contribution to labour law in Canada. He has written numerous articles, has lectured for Continuing Legal Education and is invited regularly to speak on labour and employment law matters. In 1992, Tom was appointed by the British Columbia Minister of Labour to a Committee of Special Advisors to recommend an overall labour relations strategy for British Columbia, and was one of three special advisors responsible for drafting the Labour Relations Code. Tom was appointed Queens Counsel in 1998 and is listed in the peer rated publications LEXPERT’s The Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, the International Bar Association’s The International Who’s Who of Management Labour & Employment Lawyers, and Bestlawyers.com’s The Best Lawyers in Canada as a leading employment and labour lawyer.
